Clinical Evaluation of Hepatoma Patients with Short Survival after Transhepatic Arterial Chemoembolization

Abstract
Normal hepatic function reservoirs of some patients are not sufficient to endure hepatic parenchymal damage intrahepatic arterial arterial infusion of the toxic adriamycin and lipidol suspension for hepatomas, We have never taken tests of normal
hepatic
function reservoirs before transhepatic arterial chemoembolization (TAE) for hepatomas, However, we have performed several TAE in the cases of normal liver function tests and patent portal veins in patients. We ovserved three cases of expired to
hepatic
failure within one moth after TAE for the known hepatomas. One expired three days after the 5th TAE due to a minimum of normal hepatic function reservoirs. The other expired 22 and 41 days, respectively, after the first TAE due to the absence of
recovery of damaged liver function.
Authors think we need both liver function tests and some special tests for measuring normal function reservoirs in order to prevent accidental hepatic failure by TAE.
